Applying for residency is exciting and stressful all at once. And with so many different things to get done, it becomes overwhelming and a blur. Use the to-do list below to help you check off your list as you go through the Match cycle! (And yes, this is IMG friendly!)
[Documents for ERAS]
- Letters of Recommendation (I recommend a minimum of 3)
- Personal Statement
- Latest USMLE Request Status
- Medical School Transcript
- MSPE (Dean’s Letter)
- ECFMG Status Report
- Photo
[To-Do’s]
- Step 1 & Step 2 (have your scores ready to go before submitting your application)
- OET (needs to be completed by the end of December of application year)
- Pathways Application (these vary depending on your IMG/school status so be sure to read their website)
- Personal Statement (start working on this early)
- CV (this isn’t required but having a completed CV helps to fill out ERAS & also comes in handy for USCE applications)
- Research residency programs that fit your criteria (especially for IMGs – I highly recommend Match A Resident – use promo code Arti15 for a discount!)
- Assign your documents to all the programs you are applying to (make sure to assign your USMLE transcript – this does NOT get assigned automatically!)
- Practice for interviews
- Register for NRMP (and make sure to add your NRMP # to your ERAS application!)
- Letters of Intent (this is not required but I recommend sending a letter to your 1st choice)
- Submit Rank List (check out the NRMP website for their deadline)
- ECFMG certificate (you NEED this before starting residency. Some programs require it by the time of application deadline or by rank list submission deadline)
